MAT FACTS
Mats are knots that occur when a dogs coat is not brushed thoroughly or brushed at all and are no longer able to be brushed out. When mats become large and more serious they become very heavy and grow close to the skin,in some cases the skin can grow in to the mat and making it very difficult to remove. When mats occur between the front or back legs they prevent the dog from moving freely causing pain.( They dont have to be large mats) A matted coat provides the best environment for fleas and infections to harbour, making it almost impossible to know that they are there and treat. Dematting a dogs coat is painful for the dog and could result in them refusing to be groomed. If your dogs coat becomes very matted the whole coat will need to be stripped down short as there is no other way around removing them.
